The Western Springs Park District’s Memorial Tree and Memorial Bench Program offers a meaningful way to honor a loved one, celebrate a milestone, or recognize a special occasion. Whether you choose to dedicate a tree or a bench, your contribution creates a lasting tribute while helping enhance the beauty, comfort, and character of our parks for the entire community.

Why Participate?

A memorial tree or bench is a thoughtful way to create a lasting connection to Western Springs. These dedications not only honor important people and moments, but also support the continued improvement of our public spaces.

Memorial trees help:

  • Stabilize soil and reduce erosion
  • Provide habitat and food for wildlife

Memorial benches help:

Program Details

Trees and benches may be donated year-round.

Tree plantings take place in the spring and fall in coordination with the Park District’s reforestation efforts. Benches are installed as weather and scheduling allow.

Participants work closely with Park District staff to select an appropriate option and location. Please note:

  • Tree availability varies by season
  • Tree species selection is based on site conditions, soil health, and long-term sustainability in our climate zone
  • All commemorative trees are professionally planted, monitored, and maintained by Park District staff
  • Bench placement is based on park needs, available locations, and overall site planning

Tree Options

We offer a variety of tree types suited to different landscape needs, including:

Shade Trees
Large canopy trees ideal for cooling and beauty
Examples: Oak, Maple, Linden, Elm

Conifers
Evergreens that maintain foliage year-round
Examples: Pine, Spruce, Fir, Juniper

Ornamental Trees
Smaller trees known for seasonal flowers or vibrant fall color
Examples vary seasonally

Benches $2,200
